From Cllr Mary Arnold

The partnership is growing and now includes all three councillors, the Neighbourhood Working co-ordinator, Marcia Griffiths, and Fiveways TRA. I have passed the chair over to Keith Lunn (south Kilburn OK Club) with a vice chair Jim Foord (Fiveways) and Simon Topping (Neighbourhood co-ordinator for Extended Schools) is providing good support.

The Group has achieved improved sports activities at Charteris, Youth Bus sessions, police engagement with partners and young people, wider partnership with the College, Music School, Tricycle, residents’ associations and Brent Youth, Sports Development and Extended Schools services. Areas for action include:

The funding bid proposal – for youth and community facilities, changing to avoid duplicating the services Brent should provide
Streets for People
Co-ordinated information for young people, access and gaps in provision.

Partnership meetings are quarterly and there is a smaller Funding Bid sub-group. The next meeting on Fri Sept 12th Oct 24th 10.00 at Granvilleplus Centre includes Streets for People on the agenda.

Stop press – next meeting 24th Oct 10.00 – 11.30 – venue to be confirmed

From Cllr Mary Arnold, Funding for Fair Play

Our campaigning to increase children’s play and ball court areas in the BEST and BRAT area is beginning to kick in. Kimberley Rd playground is now on the BHP (Brent Housing Partnership) list of Environmental Improvements marked urgent due to Health and Safety issues. It has also been identified for upgrading in the Playbuilder Scheme for which Brent has £1million government funding to spend over three years. Kimberley Rd is one of 20 schemes and is scheduled for year 2 (2009/10). Streatley Road gardens is also earmarked for funding.

BRAT, BEST and other residents’ associations and local residents have been involved in the call for action and the final design of the area, which must be subject to consultation, could provide for the various needs, which are both for 8 – 13s (the Playbuilder programme) and older children wanting other activities.
